Job Description

Overview
Nandan GSE Pvt Ltd, a 34-year-old family-owned leader in Material Handling and Ground Support Equipment, is strengthening its core engineering leadership and is looking for a Design Lead who will evolve into the Head of Design.
This is not a drawing-factory role.
This role exists to own design outcomes end-to-end — from concept clarity to shop-floor reality — across aerospace, aviation, defence, and industrial mobility systems. You will report directly to the COO and Managing Director, with high visibility, high accountability, and zero tolerance for “design that looks good on screen but fails on the floor.”
The role is based in Navi Mumbai (Belapur) with regular engagement at the Khalapur manufacturing facility, ensuring tight integration between design, production, quality, and delivery.

What You Will Do (Your Real Job)
Design Leadership & Ownership

  • Lead, mentor, and scale a team of mechanical design engineers with clear standards, review cadence, and accountability
  • Own design quality, timelines, and design freeze discipline across multiple concurrent projects
  • Act as the final technical authority before designs move to production
    • Engineering & Execution
  • Develop and review complex 3D models, assemblies, and drawings in SolidWorks, with strong focus on DFM/DFA
  • Drive design validation through simulations (structural, motion, load cases) using ANSYS / Abaqus or equivalent
  • Ensure robust GD&T, material selection, and tolerance strategy suited for real‑world operating conditions
    • Manufacturing Integration
  • Work closely with the Khalapur factory during prototyping, fabrication, testing, and first builds
  • Resolve design‑to‑production issues hands‑on — no “email engineering”
  • Build feedback loops from shop floor → design desk → improved standards
    • Systems & Process
  • Own and improve the BOM structure, cost visibility, and component standardisation
  • Institutionalise design reviews, checklists, and lessons‑learned mechanisms
  • Reduce rework, design loops, and late surprises
    • Strategic Role
  • Provide clear technical inputs to leadership on feasibility, risks, and capacity
  • Prepare yourself to take over as Head of Design as the organisation scales
    • What We Are Looking For
  • 8+ years of mechanical design experience, with 2+ years leading teams or functions
  • Deep hands‑on expertise in SolidWorks (assemblies, configurations, drawings)
  • Experience delivering mobility systems, platforms, or heavy mechanical equipment from concept to production
  • Strong command over manufacturing processes, GD&T, materials, and tolerance stack‑ups
  • Comfort operating between boardroom discussions and shop‑floor problem‑solving
  • Ability to say “no” to bad design ideas — even when they come from powerful people 😉
